Myopia Control

What Is Myopia?

Myopia, commonly known as nearsightedness, occurs when the eye grows too long from front to back which makes light focus in front of the retina, causing distant objects to appear blurry.

What causes myopia?

Myopia is believe to be caused by a mix of hereditary and environmental factors.  Increased risk factors include:

  • Inherited; greater risk if one or both parents are myopic
  • Increase time for near task, like reading or using screens like those on smartphones or computers
  • Not spending a lot of time outdoors. It is recommended to spend 2 hours outside a day to decrease the risk of myopia

Common Symptoms of Myopia Include:

  •  Faraway objects look blurred or fuzzy while close items appear clear
  • Headaches
  • Eye Strain
  • Squinting
  • Tiredness when driving, playing sports or looking more than a few feet away.

Some additional symptoms of myopia to watch for in your children include:

  • Poor performance in school
  • Holding objects close to their face
  • Shortened attention span

Myopia usually starts in elementary school and progresses through the teenage years.  Without treatment, many children experience stronger prescriptions every year.

Why Myopia Control Is Important

Higher levels of myopia increase the risk of:  retinal detachment, glaucoma, myopic macular degeneration, and early cataracts. Slowing myopia progression can significantly reduce these risks.

Treatment Options: FDA-approved for myopia control

Glasses Treatment:

Stellest® lenses provide clear vision for everyday life while actively managing myopia, that looks and feels like regular glasses.  Key benefits include:  Clear, comfortable vision just like standard glasses that help reduce the progression of myopia by an average of 67% when worn 12+ hours a day. These lenses are non-invasive and easy to wear, with no daily routines to change.  They keep peripheral vision and depth perception intact.

These Stellest® lenses look like regular glasses but contain thousands of microscopic lenslets that help slow eye growth. Clinical studies show these lenses can significantly reduce the progression of myopia in children.

Contact Lens Treatment:

MiSight 1 day contact lenses are daily disposable soft contact lenses designed specifically to slow myopia progression. They provide clear vision while also helping control eye growth.  Key Benefits Include:  New fresh lens every day, excellent vision and comfort, and are great for sports and active kids
